We love working with individuals who are curious, motivated to change and no longer wish to suffer their symptom.

Finding a psychotherapist or analyst who you trust can truly help you can be an incredibly foreign experience. You can do a Google search for psychotherapist near me or psychoanalysis in Dublin and see a long list of websites. How do you know who you can trust?

Biography

L Barnard HS.JPG

Liam Barnard BA., Msc. & Msc. Psych.

I am a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst. I have seen firsthand the change that can take place when people move from a place of self-judgment and self-criticism to a place of curiosity and acceptance.

I have a MSc. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from UCD School of Medicine in Dublin, alongside Specific Modality Training in psychoanalysis. This is a rigorous training in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis based in St. Vincents University Hospital, Dublin.

I spent 10 years working in the international development sector including at Executive level so have extensive experience of working across different cultures and in high pressure environments, with a unique insight into the difficulties that people encounter in the modern workplace.

I have an interest in the causes of peoples suffering, specifically anxiety, and why there is a disconnect between what we say we want and how we act and feel. I have extensive experience of working with young adults and helping people work through their issues so that they can feel more at ease with themselves and others.

I lecture in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy at Dublin Business School and the UCD School of Medicine in St Vincent’s University Hospital. I am an accredited member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (www.psychotherapycouncil.ie), the Irish Forum for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IFPP) and a member of the Irish School for Lacanian Psychoanalysis (islp.ie). I have a broad range of experience of working with people affected by anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem, loneliness and isolation.

One clients story...

I was referred to Karina Melvin by my GP as I was suffering from panic attacks and early childhood issues. Her calm and caring approach had a real stabilising effect. Through the work I developed the confidence to explore things I wasn’t consciously aware of but which was holding me back. Through talking and addressing the issues which emerged the panic attacks abated. If I feel one coming on, which is a very rare occurrence, I now have the ability to cope with the feelings and can manage to take back control of my body and mind. Thanks a million!”
